Abstract

Discovering the pattern of life that can restore peace and hope to modern man has become a public demand. Different currents and trends of belief propose models, one of which is the model of "spiritual life". In this article, we have tried to analyze the most important epistemological foundations of spirituality with the analytical descriptive method of the materials obtained from library sources, by comparing and measuring the conceptualization and formulations of spirituality. Spirituality in its general sense can be considered as living based on belief in things beyond matter and establishing opinion and action in all aspects of life based on it. Despite the fact that the word spirituality and its derivatives are not used in the Quran; But considering the great emphasis of the Quran on faith and righteous actions, it can be said that spirituality in Islam refers to the values and components of life based on faith in transcendental truths centered on God. Therefore, spirituality is associated with concepts such as religion, mysticism and ethics. In Islamic thought, accepting the principle of reality and the possibility of knowing it is one of the epistemological foundations of spirituality. It is based on this principle that the field of diagnosis and engineering of life is provided for man, and by exploring and receiving facts, man's thought and action find the right direction; But the most solid basis of Islamic spirituality is revelation, which is manifested in the form of faith in God and righteous deeds in the life of a Muslim.
